Nollywood Film Industry Up In Flames - Emeka Ike Fights Segun Arinze

Emeka Ike
The leadership fight in our grande Nollywood Film Industry, among the members of the Actors Guild of Nigeria  (AGN) rages on, dearies.

Pmnews reports that a federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned the suit filed by Emeka Ike against Segun Arinze and six others (the defendants) till 21 June.

Emeka Ike is one of  Nollywood film industry's top acts and a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

The other defendants in this case are incorporated Trustees of Actors Guild of Nigeria, Chairman of the board of Trustees Ifeanyi Dike, Emmanuel Oguguah, Murphy Stephen, Sunny Mcdon and Okey McAnthony.

In case you don't know what's causing the beef in Nollywood film industry's AGN , here's the story. (As sworn to and presented to the court by Emeka Ike.)

Segun Arinze
Emeka alleges that the Guild’s immediate past president, Ejike Asiegbu’s tenure expired in 2007 but Ejike Asiegbu refused to step down and conduct elections for Nollywood film industry's AGN new excos.

Due to the reluctance of Ejike Asiegbu to relinquish power, the defendants created a National Caretaker Committee that had as members - President Kanayo O. Kanayo; Vice President Bimbo Manuel; Secretary Chukwura and Spokesman Charles Okafor.

They then sued Ejike Asiegbu and prayed the court to ratify the appointment of the Caretaker Committee.

On 10 August, 2009, the Committee set up an electoral committee and raised funds to finance the election from its members, the public, government parastatals and corporations.

At the last minute, the ousted President Ejike Asiegbu picked Segun Arinze, who is not a registered member, as the president.

Consequently, a petition was sent to the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja.

But coming to reality that his selection in Port Harcourt as President of the Guild was illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional, Segun Arinze denounced his Presidency.

With the erstwhile President out of the way, the defendants began to scheme to elongate their stay in office.

Consequently after entering into alliance with Segun Arinze the defendants amended the constitution of the Guild by the forming a body called “Government of National Unity” to take over the affairs of the Guild for two years with Okey Mcanthony as president.

But Emeka Ike rejected his appointment into the Government of National Unity.

A free and fair election was rather conducted and Emeka Ike was duly elected as the National President of the Guild with the following persons emerging as officers of the Guild:

  • National Secretary Femi Duroyaye;
  • Vice President North-East Sani Mohammed;
  • Vice President Southsouth Yusuf Bako Mohammed;
  • Vice President Southeast Nkiru Sylvanus;
  • Vice President Southwest Victor Edogun,
  • National PRO Benita Nzeribe;
  • National DGS Ngozi Onoka;
  • National Financial Secretary Azi Oliver Akalagwu
  • National Assistant Secretary Aminu Abdullahi.
So now, Emeka Ike is praying the Court to declare that the tenure of the defendants as members of board of trustees has expired and they don’t have powers to amend the constitution of the Guild.

And an order of the Court restraining the GNU from parading themselves as officials of the association.

However, from Segun Arinze's side of the story, Segun says Emeka Ike is not only an impostor but a suspended member of  Nollywood film industry's Actors Guild of Nigeria.

And that the action of the board of trustees was endorsed by the entire members of the Guild as it is expedient to rescue the Guild from crisis.

That the caretaker committee which conducted the purported election that ushered in the government of Emeka Ike could not have continued to function upon its dissolution by the board of trustees having realised that it was unconstitutionally constituted.

Therefore Segun Arinze and the other defendants are urging the court in the interest of justice to dismiss the suit being frivolous and misconceived.

I was surfing the net when I stumbled on this travel advice to any foreigner planning to come to Nigeria for the easter holidays or for whatever reason.

Easter is around the corner and I'm so sure so many foreign tourists would love to travel to nigeria and have some good time.

But sincerely after reading the travel advice, me sef if I be foreigner, I for no come Naija at all again.

Here are some excerpts from the site's article.

Read for yourself and get scared out of Nigeria!!! You may even end up regretting being Nigerian.

Travel advice for this country - Nigeria.

Still current at: 29 March 2012
Updated: 22 March 2012

  • We advise against ALL travel to:

• Borno State.
• Yobe State.
• Bayelsa State.
• Delta State.
Rivers State (including Port Harcourt).
• Riverine areas of Akwa Ibom State.
• The Bakassi Peninsula.

  • We advise against ALL BUT ESSENTIAL travel to:

• Kano City.
• Bauchi State.
• Jos City.Gombe State.
• Mubi Town in Adamawa State, and the area north of Mubi Town that borders Borno State.
• Non-riverine areas of Akwa Ibom State.
• Abia State.

  • Other advice:
  • There is a high threat of terrorism in Nigeria.

The main terrorist threat in northern Nigeria comes from the Islamist extremist group Boko Haram.

Attacks could be indiscriminate, including government and security institutions, international organisations as well as public areas such as markets, hotels, shopping centres, places of worship and other areas frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.

Boko Haram aspires to establish Islamic law in Nigeria and has carried out mass casualty attacks, including the co-ordinated attacks in Kano City on 20 January which killed 185 people.

Boko Haram publicly declared its loyalty to Al Qaeda in 2010 and has aligned itself to the jihadist ideology. The attack against the UN building in Abuja in August 2011, which killed 23 people shows that international and western interests could be targeted.

MEND (Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta) is a militant group seeking to assume control of Nigeria's energy resources in the Niger Delta region.

A faction of the group was responsible for the 1 October 2010 attack in Abuja, demonstrating an ability and willingness of this faction to operate away from their usual base in the south.
On 6 February 2012, MEND threatened to carry out renewed attacks on major oil and gas assets in the Niger Delta.

Recent Attacks:

•On 12 March 2012 a police station was attacked in Kano City. Reports state that three people were killed.

•On 11 March 2012 a suicide bomber attacked a church in Jos, in Plateau State. Reports state that four people were killed in this attack and that localised violence continued after the attack resulting in further casualties.

•On 26 February 2012 a suicide bomber attacked a church in Jos, in Plateau State. Reports state that four people were killed in this attack and that there were multiple casualties.

•On 24 February 2012 at least four people were killed in the northern Nigerian city of Gombe in a gun and bomb attack on a prison and police station.

•On 22 February explosions and gunfire were reported in the Hotoro area of Kano city in the early hours of the morning.

On 14 February two explosions occurred in the Ungwar Sarki district of Kaduna city. Media reports of one fatality and a number of injuries.

•On 7 February two separate explosions occurred at the Nigerian Army 1 Division Headquarters and at the Airforce Headquarters in Kawo in Northern Kaduna. A third explosion occurred at the nearby Kawo flyover. Media reports of three fatalities and around 40 casualties.

•On 20 January, a series of co-ordinated terrorist attacks took place in Kano targeting police and other government buildings. Local authorities have confirmed the official death toll at 185 people. Boko Haram, has claimed responsibility. Following these attacks, other unexploded devices have been discovered in Kano city and made safe by the local authorities.

•Since 1 January, a series of attacks across Adamawa State, including in Yola and Mubi, have left over 40 people dead.

25 December 2011 A series of bomb attacks took place in Nigeria on two churches in Madalla (Niger State) and Jos (Plateau State) resulting in a reported 32 deaths and many other injured. Three separate attacks also took place in northern Yobe State which left four other people dead. The Islamist group, Boko Haram, has claimed responsibility.

•17 December 2011, two people were killed and six injured in an attack. On 19 December, Nigerian police arrested 14 suspected terrorists in Kano.

•4 and 5 November 2011 a series of gun and bomb attacks occurred in the north-eastern Nigerian city of Damataru in Yobe State. Police stations and several churches have been targeted leaving at least 60 people dead and many more injured. The attacks happened shortly after a triple suicide bomb attack on a military headquarters in Maiduguri, in neighbouring Borno state.

•26 August 2011 there was an explosion at the UN building in the diplomatic sector in Abuja caused by a car bomb. 23 people were killed. Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the attack. This attack followed one the group committed against the National Police Force in the capital on 16 June 2011.
  • There is a threat of kidnapping throughout Nigeria for financial, political or criminal motives.

Recent kidnappings of Westerners include:

•On 26 January 2012 a Germannational was kidnapped in Kano.

•On 12 May 2011 a British national was kidnapped in Kebbi State alongside an Italian national. Both hostages were killed in Sokoto on 8 March 2012.

•On 22 June 2010 a British national was kidnapped in Abuja and was subsequently released on 25 June 2010.

Since January 2007, we are aware of at least 24 British nationals and more than 200 other foreign nationals who have been kidnapped in the Niger Delta area, with one British national being killed.

Two British nationals kidnapped in September 2008 were held for a number of months. One was released in April 2009 and one in June 2009.
Although there have been no reported kidnaps of Britons in the Niger Delta in the past year the threat remains.
A US National was kidnapped in January 2012.

You should be aware that the long-standing policy of the British Government is not to make substantive concessions to hostage takers.

The British Government considers that paying ransoms and releasing prisoners increases the risk of further hostage-taking. (Point is you are on your own??)
  • Violent Street Crimes

Violent Street crimes e.g. muggings, kidnappings, car-jackings and especially armed robberies continue at high levels in the south of the country including Lagos.

Avoid carrying large amounts of cash and wearing valuable watches, jewellery or items of sentimental value.

Remain alert to your surroundings and the actions of local people around you. If you suspect danger, move away to a safer area. Do not try to resist.

There have been a number of robberies and kidnappings in Abia, Edo and Anambra States, in the latter particularly along the Enugu-Awka-Onitsha expressway.
  • Fraud Scams

Foreign nationals are frequently defrauded by scam artists. The scams come in many forms, and can pose great financial loss to victims.

  • Travel In Nigeria

Serious traffic jams in Lagos are not uncommon. Short journeys that normally take minutes can sometimes take hours.

Public transport is dangerous. Taxis and long distance buses are poorly maintained and are often uninsured and driven by fraudulent drivers.

We advise you to take a mobile telephone with you when travelling by car so that you can stay in touch with family, friends and employers.

We also advise you to have a supply of bottled water in your vehicle at all times.

  • Homosexuality

Homosexuality is illegal under Federal law, covering the whole of Nigeria.

Nigeria has the largest Muslim population in sub-Saharan Africa. You should exercise discretion in behaviour and dress, particularly in the north and during the Holy month of Ramadan and when visiting religious sites.

  • Nigeria's Economy

Nigeria is a cash economy.

You should ensure that you bring enough currency (Sterling, US Dollars or Euros) to cover your costs.

Travellers' cheques are difficult to cash in Nigeria.

We advise against the use of credit cards throughout Nigeria.
  •  Your Health - Comprehensive Medical Insurance

Basic, limited medical facilities are available in some parts of Nigeria.

Malaria is very common in Nigeria and it is estimated that 25% of all malaria cases in the world happen in Nigeria.

It is estimated that 3.1 million Nigerians are living with HIV.

Lassa Fever, a serious rat-borne viral disease is present in Nigeria.  This caused over 40 deaths. The states affected were Lagos, Edo, Nassawara, Plateau, Taraba, Orido, Rivers, Gombe, Anambra and Delta.

You should seek medical advice, take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance including a provision for medical evacuation before travelling to Nigeria and ensure that all appropriate vaccinations are up to date.

You should check and exclusions, that your insurance company provides a personal insurance cover for you in Nigeria, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake.

Hmm, fear catch me too oo.

Are we really this scary???

Who is to be blamed, abeg?!

AFRICAN UNION ENDORSES OKONJO-IWEALA FOR WORLD BANK PRESIDENT, CHINA MAY BACK HER TOO

African Union finance leaders on Monday unanimously endorsed Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala’s candidacy to lead the World Bank and urged an open merit-based process to select the next head of the global financial institution.

And in a move that could boost the chances of Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, landing the plum job, China yesterday said:

“the voice of developing countries” must be taken into account when selecting a new leader for the World Bank, amid calls for an end to United States (U.S.) dominance at the global lender
.

Recall that under an informal agreement between the US and its allies in Europe, Washington has laid claim to the top post at the World Bank since its founding after World War II, while an European has always led the International Monetary Fund, its sister Bretton Woods institution.

World Bank’s executive board is set to interview the three candidates – Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Mr. Jose Antonio Ocampo and Mr. Jim Yong Kim in the coming weeks, and is expected to select its new president “by consensus” next month.

Abeg, make these guys select this World Bank President based on the principles of fairness, openness and transparency oo.

FG LAMENTS N3TN SPENT ON EDUCATION, STILL NO RESULTS

Federal Government on Monday said it had spent N3tn on education with a little impact.

It also said it was aware that the sector had been suffering from inadequate funding.
Chief Pius Anyim Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation said this through Mr. Femo Olayisade (Perm. Sec Special Duties):

From 1999 till date, the federal government has spent over N3tn on the education sector. Yet, I recall that during our negotiations with ASUU during their last strike, a principal demand of the lecturers was increased funding. “I therefore implore you all to consider the forum as an opportunity to discuss the ways and means of improving our educational system. Government’s investment in education has to be seen making the required impact.”.
3 trillion and still no result, wahala no dey be that?

New Number plates/driving license Drama - FRSC, NARTO DISAGREE AT REPS HEARING

New Number Plates

Dearies, what’s your personal take on this introduction of new number plates/driving license issue?

Cos the Federal Road Safety Corps & The National Association of Road Transport Owners, the Justice and Law Enforcement Reformation Organisation and other stakeholders don’t seem to agree on the relevance of the scheme.

They had all appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on FRSC in Abuja.

The House of Rep committee on FRSC had been charged to conduct an investigative hearing on the planned phasing out of the old vehicle number plates and driver’s licence.

Punch reports that the FRSC is saying the new scheme has modern security features, the introduction of owner’s bio-data and traceable identification marks and would enhance safe motoring.

That it took the FRSC four years to get the scheme in place, discussed the scheme with the Joint Tax Board, which recommended the appropriate cost of N15,000 for cars and N20,000 for lorries.

Then National Economic Council and the Federal Executive Council both approved it before the commission opened the scheme, having certified that it was good for the country.

“We are not imposing any additional costs on Nigerians, when compared with the security and safety gains of this scheme. The policy before us is no longer the policy of the FRSC, but the policy of the Federal Government, which approved it through FEC,”

While The National Association of Road Transport Owners, the Justice and Law Enforcement Reformation Organisation and other stakeholders opposed the scheme on the grounds that it is an “unnecessary” burden on Nigerians.

Me, am speechless.

You, what do you think? Whose side are you on?

NIGERIANS TO GET NATIONAL IDENTITY NUMBERS IN MAY

The National Identity Management Commission has once again shifted the commencement date for the issuance of the National Identity Number (NIN) to May this year.

These guys had initially said we will start getting these National Identity Numbers as from August 1, 2011, but the agency later changed the date when it extended the pilot period.

According to the commission, registration and issuance of the NINs in May is in order to create the first national database.

The NIN is an eleven-digit number that will be given to every Nigerian.

When the numbers are issued, they will be uploaded on chip-embedded multifunctional smartcards alongside citizens’ personal information, and would also serve as national identity cards for Nigerians.

The commission plans that 100 million Nigerians would be issued their identification numbers in the first 30 months after the commencement of the project, while the entire populace is expected to have been registered during the 60-month duration of the project.

In July 2010, National Identity Management Commission had engaged two consortia, Chams and Onesecurecard to serve as the Front End Partners to the project.
To carry out data capture, personalisation of smart ID cards and deployment of smartcard verification devices for the National Identity Management campaign.

Late DIG John Haruna's Mother Dies Of Shock After Hearing Of Son's Death

Late DIG John Haruna
The mother of Deputy Inspector General of Police [DIG], John Haruna has died of shock after hearing about her son's fatal crash.

Mrs. Silany John was 82 years old.

Deputy Inspector General of Police John Haruna had died just 12 days after he was promoted at work.

Himself and 3 police officers had boarded the Nigeria's Special Task Force helicopter for their regular surveillance check only to crash in a residential area, behind Jos Satelite Market, around Rukuba Road.

None of them made it out alive.

Dailypost reports that already, the relatives had fixed Saturday March 31 for John Haruna's burial but his mother died Saturday morning, March 24.

John Haruna’s aged father has been taken away from the house, and is unaware of his wife’s death for fear of a third tragedy.

What a sad story.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.

I'm soo afraid for Mr. John Haruna's aged father cos he will soon get to know too about his wife.

Wow, so so so sad.

Teacher Caught Pants Down With His 7 Year Old Student Arraigned

Seun Oyeleke and his victims
This story is so saddening.

Recall that last week, the story about the 29 years old teacher Seun Oyeleke who was caught pants down in a school toilet on top of his 7 years old pupil made headlines.

The teacher had been accused of taking another 5 year old pupil out by the 5 year old's brother.

The boy had told his mother who now asked him to keep watch over the teacher.

He was to rush home and report to his mother anytime the teacher took a pupil out alone again.

So on that fateful day, Seun Oyeleke had taken the 7 year old to the toilet.

The young boy ran home, told his mother who now followed him back to the school and to the toilet.

And lo and behold, they caught the teacher pants down on top of the 7 year old n the school toilet!!!!!

Well, Seun Oyeleke was arraigned before an Oshogbo magistrate court on friday, charged for raping 2 minors as reported by Punchng.

His charge sheet read he committed the acts on March 16th and 17th 2012.

Seun Oyeleke pled not guilty, his defense counsel sought bail for him which was granted at N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case has been aadjourned to April 11, 2012.

Dear Lord, let something life changing come out of this!!

A resolution that will punish the offender so severely and reduce future occurences.

This story is sooo sickening.

How Jonathan & Alhaji Bamanga Tukur Foiled Atiku's 2015 Presidential Bid

Politics is not a loaf of bread for babies.

Nahhh, not at all.

Just like a chess game between master chess players, you need to be able to read your 'opponent's mind, think what they are thinking and strike before they even realise what they have been thinking!!

Tukur
Yesterday, PDPians celebrated the emergence of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as PDP's new chairman.

And Punchng has reported that there are indications this victory may affect Atiku's presidential bid comw 2015.

(Am even a bit surprised Atiku will consider running again after how many defeats now? Well, what do I know about how these big men think.)

Atiku
The report says Tukur and Atiku are from the same senatorial zone - South senatorial district of Adamawa State.
And in 'political calculation' during election, e go hard to have presidential candidate and national chairman come from the same place.
And it's like there's beaf between Tukur and Atiku.

Cos the Punchng reports that while the chairman campaign was on, Tukur had screamed that Atiku’s ambition for the 2015 presidential election was responsible for the gang-up against him by some notable politicians in the North-East.

Tukur had described Atiku as “a desperate politician with a threatened ambition.”
And again, President Jonathan, inasmuch as he hasn't said whether he will go for second term or not, Jonathan of course knew Atiku could be a threat someday and needed to be put at a disadvantage right from Day 1.

However, the former vice-president has said Tukur’s emergence will not be an obstacle to his ambition.
Atiku's spokesperson says:

The PDP constitution is very clear about the zoning of elective offices in the party. Whenever a presidential candidate emerges, the party has a way of moving the office of the chairman to another region or zone that is different from that of the presidential candidate.”

2015 is really going to be an interesting year!!

Wahala dey!!! *chuckles*

Reasons Why Barack Obama, USA Rejected Dr. Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala As World Bank President Nominee

World Bank Headquaters, Washington D.C
Who was shocked when President Barack Obama & USA rejected our country's Finance minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala for the toppest World Bank job?

Well, here are the reasons United States gave for bouncing Dr Ngozi and nominating Mr. Jim Yong Kim instead. (as reported by Punchng & Vanguardngr)

  • USA just has to be in charge of a global organisation.
World Bank is the only global organisation they are currently heading.

  • If their person wasn't the World Bank President, it would become difficult for White House to get funding from Congress for the global lender, especially with lawmakers worried about mounting budget deficits.
  • They strongly beleive their candidate Mr. Jim Yong Kim is the best option as to commanding broad support across the world.

Hmm. Ok oo.

A lil background info about these three World Bank President Nominees:

Mr. Jim Yong Kim is a:
  • US national and President of Dartmouth College, New Hampshire.
  • He is Korean-born and 52 years old.
  • He is different or is a change from the financiers and bureaucrats who have run the World Bank before now.
This is because Kim is a Korean-American health expert.
Kim is well known among development experts for his work in fighting HIV/AIDS and bringing health care to the poor.
Mr Kim lacks experience in boosting economic growth, a key function of a World Bank President.
So he will need to develop a deep understanding of the broader development agenda of the bank.

José Antonio Ocampo is a:
  • Colombian national and Professor at Columbia University, New York.
  • Mr Jose Antonio Ocampo is 59 years old and former Colombian Finance minister
  • He is a US-trained economist who has excellent credentials in academia, national politics and at the United Nations.
  • Mr. Jose has held posts as Agriculture Minister, Planning Minister and Central Bank chairman in Colombia’s government.
Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, as we all know is a:
  • Nigerian and Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance of Nigeria
  • Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is 57 and mother of four children.
  • She is a respected economist and diplomat.
  • Has worked for more than 20 years in different positions at the World Bank
Last friday, the World Bank Board of Executives closed nominations and announced they will consider these three for the top World Bank president position.

The three nominees will go through formal interviews in Washington D.C and the new President will be selected by consensus at the Springs Meeting 2012 slated for April 21 to 23 and announced!!

Do you think our Dr. Ngozi Okonjo -Iweala can make it?

Fingers crossed!!

Sincerely, I pray she does.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is the new national chairman of PDP!!!

Dearies, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur is now the new national chairman of the PDP.

Alhaji Bamanga Tukur had emerged unopposed for the post after 10 of his opponents withdrew from the race.
 They include:
  • former Ambassador to the United States Dr. Hassan Adamu (Adamawa);
  • former Minister of Petroleum Resources Prof. Jibril Aminu (Adamawa);
  • former Minister of Commerce, Amb. Idris Waziri (Taraba);
  • former Minister of Agriculture Shettima Mustapha (Borno);
  • former National Chairman of the defunct Grassroots Democratic Movement (GDM) Gambo Lawan (Borno);
  • former Governor Adamu Mu’azu (Bauchi)
  • Senator Danjuma Goje (Gombe).
His opponents say they withdrew because they wanted to maintain the unity amongst PDP members.

Alhaji Tukur is 76 years old and used to be the governor of Gongola State, now Adamawa and Taraba States.

Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, former governor of Osun, emerged the only candidate for the position of national secretary of the party after the other aspirants withdrew from the race too at the convention's venue.

Chief Olisa Metuh, former Deputy National Chairman South-East, is now the National Publicity Secretary.
His opponents also withdrew from the race.

Congratulation Sirs.

Boko Haram Members Blown Up, Killed By Their Own Bomb In Kano

not actual scene
This is what you call correct Back To Sender!!

Two suspected Boko Haram members have been confirmed dead by The Joint Security Task-Force during an operation in Kumbotso LGA, Kano State.

Punchng reports that the suspects knew security agencis had been following them up, trailing them.

So they planned to set up a bomb in a car that will explode, killing the security agents when the security operatives come to search their (Boko Haram suspects) house.

But unfortunately the improvised explosives devices in the car exploded on them, shattering their bodies.

This is interesting, hehehee.
